Why a company lists on exchange
There are two main reasons why a subject (business or issuing entity) applies to list its shares in a stock exchange:
- Capital Increase – The stock exchange is one of the most cost efficient methods to fund a business activity. Securities listing process is mainly carried out through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) which allows businesses to invite the public invest in their securities, thus leading to a high financial performance and expected rate returns that overcome the risk undertaken from the investors.
- Prestige – In some cases, even though it does not necessarily need funds to increase its business volume, various subjects prefer being listed in stock exchange considering it a standard of financial accuracy and a standardization of institutional financial transparency.
